Chapter Eight is now online; hope you like it.
The serial is paid for through Chapter Thirteen.
I have just started writing Chapter Thirteen. What’s more, it may be the last chapter. Or next-to-last; I’m not sure yet. I’m definitely nearing the end, though.
My best guess is that the first draft will be a long novella, and the final draft will be a short novel. (The dividing line is 40,000 words.)
Can’t think of anything else that needs to be said.
Now we can only hope the fil-depressis doesn’t think it has to repair the gizmo again…
Meanwhile, I keep feeling that I’m missing a joke and that I ought to recognize the names of the sorceries if I read them out loud. I daresay if I am I’ll catch on eventually.
I really like the way Kel’s character and his relationship with Dorna is developing.
I suspect the next chapter will have them realizing that Ezak has run off with the bag of talismans.
It’s “fil drepessis,” not “fil-depressis.”
As for what’s happening next chapter, I try not to post spoilers.
I’m really enjoying this story. Thank you for continuing the Ethshar series.
As I was reading this chapter, the question occurred to me: Since wizardry and sorcery are so different (created by the chaos or order underlying the World) – do they interfere with each other (perhaps just by being in proximity)? Does using one directly against the other cause unintended side-effects?
Enjoying the story so far – thanks!
Can’t check right now, but I recall there’s a comment to this effect in one of the novels, I believe it came up in Night of Madness, where touching an Athame to a sorcerous device would render it non-functional.
I wonder if we’re ever going to find out exactly what the Northern talisman was targeting in the bag.

Nope. Sorry.
