Ishta’s Companion: Progress Report Four

Chapter Four is now posted. Chapters Five and Six are paid for; Chapter Seven is almost halfway covered.

I haven’t written any more this week, so I’m still midway through Chapter Nine. I’ve been too busy with family stuff, medical stuff, and trying to get Vika’s Avenger finished up and out of the way.

And I can’t think of anything else to say. Oh, yeah — if you donated, you should be receiving e-mail notices about each new chapter. If you aren’t, please let me know!

Thanks.

  1. And it seems possible, if not probable, that the talisman Ishta found and the baron confiscated was something Tesk lost. I shouldn’t be surprised if some later plot thread involves Tesk, Garander and Ishta trying to get it back.

  2. I am not to sure if Tesk is only pretending to have amnesia or if he really cant remember whats going on. I think he remembers more that he is saying but is hiding it. If not, what if the talisman is the equivalent of a memory storage device that Tesk lost, and that is why he cannot remember much of where he came from or what he is.

  3. This is just a guess, but I expect that Tesk is some sort of golem. I know he eats but that is my guess and the talisman can control him…gain just a guess. Of course he could be some sorta creature like a dragon in disguise who has forgotten his true form.

  4. LWE i have always loved the books in this series. But with that being said and no disrespect meant, dialogue is this story is nowhere near your usual high level; even for a rough draft.

  5. Have we ever seen an Ethsharitic dragon that can change shape?

As for the dialogue, Tesk is speaking a language he barely knows. One observant reader mentioned in e-mail that she had noticed (correctly) that he’s the first character in thirty years of Ethshar stories to shrug. This is not his native culture.

    Ishta is a little girl.

    And yes, it’s first draft.

  6. And Lawrence pretty well mentions above that the guess in the chapter 2 comments by Jared is correct, so read The Misenchanted Sword.

  7. I’m just checking the comments for the first time. You mean people didn’t know it was a Shatra? I knew it would be as soon as I found out that Ishta’s Companion was the new title for A Stranger in the Forest.

Look in the “planned novels” section of the Ethshar webpage. LWE, you may want to update that page.
